The Mane Event Ride, sponsored by the Caledonia Conservancy Land Trust, is holding its 16th annual equestrian trail ride fundraiser on Saturday, June 24. It will be held at the Neubauer Farm 5551 Short Road. Parking for cars and horse trailers is plentiful.
The event gives area horseback riders the opportunity to ride on the Conservancy horse trails as well as the private trails that are opened for the ride. Riders will participate in a mounted photo scavenger hunt along the trail route.
The first round of riders will leave the barn at 9:00 and the last group will go out at 2:00. This year there is an optional short ride that will last about 1 ½ hours. The longer ride is 2-3 hours on a marked trail through woods, over wet areas, and small hills. Crossing guards will be stationed at the road crossings. The longer route also has some optional trails that you can ride if you want to. ASTM helmets and saddles are required.
The entry fee for the scavenger hunt is $30 before June 8, $35 before June 22, and $40 the day of the ride. Your horse has to have a negative Coggins dated within a year from the date of the test. To register call Cathy Kortendick at 262-498-1230 or visit the website at www.caledoniaconservancy.org and download the entry form.
There is also a timed obstacle course on the grounds in an enclosed grass arena. The fastest rider who completes the course with the most points will receive a prize. Ribbons will be given out to riders with the five best times and points. You do not have to enter the scavenger hunt to participate in the obstacle course. The public is invited to watch the riders and horses, lunch will be available for purchase at the event. Bring your horse loving children, your cameras, and come out for a nice day in beautiful rural Caledonia.
